on a fateful day in early 2006, my older brother brought home a copy of guitar hero for the playstation 2. i was immediately hooked, and introduced to so much music i had never heard of before.
the controller was so unique, and i spent hours just trying to get good enough to finally tackle that orange fret.
i didn't know it at the time, but this game would shape much of my entire being.
we jumped to rock band on the ps2, then to guitar hero II and III on the 360, and then spent an ungodly amount of hours with rock band II - my family would spend hours just playing the game together
and discovering new music, bringing me some of the best memories i can think of, free from any fear or sadness.
this game series has always stuck with me and i love it to death. i absolutely adore how everything came together to create such a visceral product -
the art direction and design taking direct cues from the scrappy nature of underground culture, embedding it directly into the gameplay and creating a world you could embody being a performer in.

the bappyparadise FAGOCASTER
the fagocaster is my magnum opus. forged from the body of an xbox gh5 stratocaster, and fitted with the finest solderless kit from retrocultmods. it features LED mech frets that radiate the trans flag colors, a mech strumbar, a usb port for authentication in the back, and a joystick in place of the d-pad. all of this lovingly put together with a custom decal and a lesbian strap. this is the finest guitar controller of all time. except for the better ones that are out there. the big ass star power button is the greatest thing redoctane ever invented.
crkd les paul
this one is my daily driver. the hall effect strum bar is so good and i honestly don't know if i could ever go back to a regular one - the feedback you get is just so damn potent. frets feel good, mushy when you want and clacky
when you want. all with the ease of just being able to plug in and play, it's weighty and feels exactly how it should. really adore this thing.
the fucked up evil pdp riffmaster
oh god. the only positive for this thing is that it's quiet, which makes it great if you're feeling overwhelmed with sound or playing real early in the morning. otherwise - Just Don't. it feels like cheap plastic,
weighs absolutely nothing, and has so little feedback that every fuckup feels like the guitar's fault instead of yours. if this was a cheap guitar it would be perfectly serviceable, but... this shit was MORE expensive than
the crkd les paul ?!?! what a fucking rip off !!! this thing deserves to go in the dumpster. it doesn't even have style - it's just a lame cashgrab.

pop'n WORLD
i absolutely adore pop'n music...it's my favorite rhythm game outside of 5 fret! i love how nonserious, cutesy, and silly it is. rhythm games are supposed to be fun, for christ's sake!
i admittedly haven't taken a full deep dive of the console series yet - rhythm game emulation can be real difficult! however...
as of march 2026, i now own a FULL SIZE POP'N HD CABINET !!! my current apartment cannot house it so it's in storage a little ways out, but it is beautiful and everything i could ever dream of. i hope it's the first step in building out a beautiful personal arcade !! (sound voltex is next on my list). it's really relaxing to be able to sit back with your own arcade machine, without worry of cost or time, free from the sensory nightmare that is your standard public arcade. it's also been such an experience getting to work on it from a operator standpoint - slowly understanding the inside mechanics and getting to use the tactile switches inside is wonderfully fulfilling. i'll have more info to share once i have some more hands-on time with it, and when i eventually get it into my living quarters!
